The two
separate collisions were both single vehicle collisions with the wall at approximately the same
location causing noticeable distress to the wall structure.
The soundwall separates Westgate Parkway from the back yards of residential properties
along Timothy Drive and Marybelle Avenue . The wall was constructed when the property was
a privately owned industrial site but became the City’s responsibility when the right of way was
acquired in 1987.
Analysis
Typically, soundwalls are not intended nor designed to withstand vehicular impact loads.
Analysis of the distressed wall has determined that the collisions have damaged the structural
integrity at the location of impact necessitating repairs.
This project will demolish two adjacent 10-foot wide wall panels. A replacement wall section
of similar height and appearance will be constructed and supported on new foundations. The
replaced wall section will meet current Building Code requirements for soundwalls.
Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 6/25/2013
