34 City of San Leandro | Economic Development Initiatives and Work Plan | December 2013 <br /> <br />Available, suitable and affordable business and investment locations (sites) - <br />These activities enable increased and improved supply of available sites for tech business <br />development. <br />Activities in Process: <br /> Innovative development of existing sites: Westgate and Bayfair Shopping Centers <br /> List of Opportunity Sites: Use of online tools and relationships with real estate brokers to <br />identify opportunity sites. Communicate LSL advantage to both traditional industrial <br />brokers and newer tech-focused brokers. <br /> Co-working space: Identify sites and operators to run affordable, personal space in an <br />open, friendly working environment. Presents an opportunity to bring tech innovators <br />and entrepreneurs together in a community environment. <br />Activities under Exploration: <br /> Tech Incubators: Tech startups are most often <br />born in collaborative, community-oriented work <br />environments that also provide business services <br />and access to business funding opportunities. <br /> <br />Develop a Highly Qualified Local Workforce - These activities enable improvements in <br />the quality of San Leandro’s workforce and improved job opportunities in tech industries. <br />Activities in Process: <br /> Library: Connected to LSL, the library enables fast <br />fiber access to residents. The new Millennial <br />Academy will offer a wide range of free, engaging <br />events and activities including career <br />development workshops, technology related <br />volunteer opportunities, gaming events, a <br />homebrewing workshop, hands on “hacker/maker” <br />3D Printing and Arduino Programming workshops. <br />Activities under Exploration: <br /> K-12 education: Coordination with San Leandro Unified School District and San Lorenzo <br />Unified School District to develop plan for connecting all schools to the LSL network
