Council Member Perry said the Trivia Bee, North Area Home Tour, and <br /> Farmers' Market were a smashing success. She thanked everyone involved <br /> with these activities for their work and noted many volunteer hours <br /> were donated. She specifically thanked Kathy Ornelas, Rosie Rios, <br /> Susan McCue, and Nancy Hillis. <br /> B. Mayor Corbett thanked the Downtown Business Association for their <br /> participation in the Farmers' Market. <br /> C. Council Member Polvorosa thanked the City Manager and Police Department <br /> for leading the ceremonies for his uncle's, Mario Polvorosa, funeral . <br /> He requested the meeting be adjourned in memory of Mario Polvorosa. <br /> D. Council Member Kerr said his Town Hall Meeting was better attended and <br /> noted he tried to achieve a mutual exchange of information with the <br /> community. <br /> Council Member Kerr said the Memorial Services at the Chapel of the <br /> Chimes were excellent and thanked Martin Francis for his flag <br /> presentations. <br /> Council Member Kerr referred to a letter he received regarding the City <br /> law prohibiting more than two dogs per household and requested a report <br /> on the reasons for the law and whether exceptions could be made for <br /> pups under six months. <br /> Council Member Kerr said people have objected to using tax-increment <br /> funds for low-income housing. He requested a report on the feasibility <br /> of rehabilitating existing housing for use for low income. <br /> E. Council Member Galvan requested a report on the possibility of <br /> licensing cats, such as has been done by the City of Fremont. <br /> F. Council Member Loeffler said the School District hosted an <br /> International Pot Luck on May 24th in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, <br /> Jr. , and presented Citizenship Awards. He commended Penny Peck and <br /> Nancy Fong of the Library for their involvement in the community. <br /> Council Member Loeffler discussed the May 26th briefing by Supervisor <br /> Wilma Chan regarding the County budget and noted San Leandro has 5,500 <br /> residents on AFDC. He said the City needs to be conscious of such <br /> issues when making cuts in social -service budgets. <br /> Council Member Loeffler said he attended the DCARA open house on May <br /> 26th. He said DCARA serves the Bay Area deaf community and is a highly <br /> valued resource. <br />
