Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - July 17, 1995 Page - 4 -
PUBLIC COMMENTS (continued)
D. Connie Calvert, 263 Santa Susana, Mission Bay Mobilehome Park, said
City-wide rent control was sought, but there is none. She said the
agreement was not fully described, and people have no idea of what the
pass-through might be. She said Mr. Sweeney stated he was not in favor
of long-term leases because they present problems, but his comments
were not reported in the Mission Bay magazine so people were not
informed. She said the process has been underhanded and deceptive.
She said a flyer was distributed at the park saying the park owners
have taken out insurance to cover any and all disasters, but this is
confusing because the agreement says disaster costs are passed through.
She said the flyer also said the new agreement has been reviewed and
approved by the City Attorney. City Attorney Steve Meyers said he has
reviewed the agreement, but it is the City Council which approves it.
E. Carl Johnson, 428 Santa Monica, Mission Bay Mobilehome Park, said 17
meetings were held consisting of the residents' committee, several with
the park property manager, and a couple with the City residents in the
park, and they are endeavoring to improve conditions related to rent,
the terms of the agreement, etc. He said they sent notices regarding
two of the meetings in the afternoon and one in the evening; 97 people
said they wanted to attend and about 50 actually attended. He said
Jeff Moore attended all of them and went through the proposed
negotiations page-by-page and answered questions. He said the
agreement was distributed to those people who indicated they wanted a
copy. He said the committee thought they had brought out the issues
that were of prime importance to everyone, and he looks forward to the
meeting on the 24th.
F. Dick Marshall , 15014 Wengate, said it was great to see the creation of
a Manager for the _ Golf . Course, but it should be removed from the
Consent Calendar and discussed more fully with the City Council . He
said he was concerned regarding the reporting lines if the golf course
maintenance is privatized. Mr. Marshall said the Recreation and Parks
Commission spent a lot of time trying to find a place for a skateboard
park that is safe and usable, and time is of the essence.
G. Jack Wood, 7892 Fairoaks, Pleasanton, said he was a resident of San
Leandro for 70 years and still owns property in San Leandro. He said
a newspaper article said Hayward is going to make a lot of money. He
— said it is five-tenths of a mile from 238 to Bayfair Mall and 250 of
the cars in the parking lot are being used for BART parking. He said
Council Member Galvan is on the right track.
H. Jeff Brooks, 15206 Edgemoor Street, President of Washington Manor
Homeowners' Association, said his Association is in full support of the
skateboard park.
I .
