Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - November 6, 1995 Page - 16 - <br /> NEW BUSINESS (continued) <br /> Council Member Myers said this came about as a joint effort between <br /> the City, the vendor, and the Downtown Business Association, and is <br /> an economic development issue. He said the City is trying to get <br /> people to come to the downtown area. He said there are always <br /> traffic problems, and they will have to be dealt with. <br /> Vice Mayor Kerr said this is an excellent concept, and more needs to <br /> be done for kids. He said staff should look at the impact on <br /> neighboring businesses and try to work something out related to <br /> parking, security, etc. <br /> In response to questions, Ms. McCue described the proposed funding <br /> for the rink and said it includes fencing, lighting, and electric <br /> costs. <br /> Council Member Galvan said this is a great idea and will bring <br /> families into the downtown area. He said more things need to be <br /> done to create a good atmosphere downtown that will benefit the <br /> merchants and kids. He said he had concerns about parking and <br /> suggested perhaps the Crocker Bank site could be used. He supported <br /> the rink. <br /> Resolution No. 95-216, Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to <br /> Execute a Contract Between the City of San Leandro and Ice <br /> Unlimited, Inc. , to Operate a Temporary Holiday Ice Skating Facility <br /> in the Downtown Area (provides for temporary ice skating facility to <br /> promote downtown businesses and provide recreational activity for <br /> the community) . (2207) <br /> Introduced by Council Member Galvan, who moved its adoption, <br /> seconded by Council Member Kerr, with Council Member Perry voting no <br /> (1) , and carried by a majority vote (6) . <br /> The City Manager said staff will contact local businesses that have <br /> expressed concern and work on alternative parking, will meet with <br /> the Police Department and discuss issues related to the liquor store <br /> and Tommy T's, and will meet with the DBA and see what kind of <br /> participation they plan. <br /> - Minute Order No. 95-78, Motion Approving Two-Year Community <br /> Assistance Funding for Social Service Agencies for Fiscal Year 1996- <br /> 97 and 1997-98 (provides for two-year funding to Social Service <br /> Agencies based upon availability of funds and submittal of annual <br /> summary report prior to the release of second-year funds) . <br /> On motion by Council Member Loeffler, who moved its approval , <br /> seconded by Council Member Kerr, and carried by a majority vote (7) , <br /> the City Council approved the two-year community assistance funding <br /> for Social Service Agencies for Fiscal Year 1996-97 and 1997-98. <br />
