CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> A. Council Member Perry said she attended, on behalf of Council , the <br /> presentation of the Jefferson Elementary School murals by Sean and <br /> Janet Johnson. They want to do the rest of the hallway, and she asked <br /> if the City could help with paint, etc. <br /> B. Council Member Polvorosa said he is deeply concerned regarding the <br /> graffiti etched on library glass and in the restrooms and said the City <br /> should go to any lengths necessary to apprehend and get restitution. <br /> The City Manager said this is a popular substitution for graffiti and <br /> has caused $20,000 worth of damage. He said the Police Department has <br /> arrested several young people and everything possible is being done to <br /> apprehend, prosecute, and get restitution. <br /> C. Vice Mayor Kerr noted several successful holiday programs, including <br /> Bonaire and the downtown activities. <br /> Vice Mayor Kerr said Assemblyman Sweeney requested Council <br /> consideration of the resolution regarding the "Mobilehome Fairness and <br /> Rental Assistance Initiative." Vice Mayor Kerr requested that this <br /> matter be placed on a future City Council agenda. He said the <br /> initiative is poorly worded and would reduce the authority of local <br /> agencies to address issues. <br /> Vice Mayor Kerr asked the City Attorney if the Council should <br /> reconsider eminent domain since they received a formal request to do <br /> so. The City Attorney said a request for reconsideration can only be <br /> made by City Council . He said the Council has authority to adopt the <br /> Ordinance, and changes can be made in the future with proper legal <br /> notice. <br /> D. Council Member Loeffler said the tree lighting ceremony was well <br /> attended, but he was concerned that the tree was smaller than in <br /> previous years. He requested staff develop a permanent site for the <br /> City tree as part of the downtown renovation. <br /> Council Member Loeffler requested a report on damage from the December <br /> 12 windstorm. The City Manager said there was no major damage and most <br /> cleanup was done within a couple of days. There was no major flooding. <br /> Some private signs were damaged; Development Services is working with <br /> those businesses. He said there was some damage on the golf course. <br /> Council Member Loeffler said he is impressed with the community <br /> response to the City Connection and noted there is a waiting list for <br /> parking meters. <br />
