I <br /> .Minutes -, San .Leandro.City Council .Meeting - May 17, 1993 Page - 2 - <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS (continued) <br /> B. Rick Richards, 335 Peralta Avenue, spoke regarding last Saturday's <br /> school clean-up. He thanked the community, City Council , School Board <br /> representatives, teachers, students, and the Chamber of Commerce. He <br /> said this was one of the most successful community events he has ever <br /> seen. He said he saw 225 volunteers there at one time. <br /> Mayor Karp also extended thanks to the Manufacturers' Association, who <br /> started the program; Kelly Moore, for the paint; and the 450 people who <br /> worked at the schools. <br /> Mayor Karp noted he had taken a number of photos which he would make <br /> available to the Manufacturers' Association. <br /> Council Member Perry said she was on the tree crew at San Leandro High <br /> School with Dale Reed and Bud Lafferty. She said they were not used to <br /> using picks and shovels. Members of the Navy pitched in and helped, <br /> and she expressed her thanks to them. She also thanked the parents and <br /> community members all over the City who had participated. <br /> C. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, said it is difficult to <br /> participate when there are time constraints. He referred to the <br /> Minutes of April 19, 1993, Items H and J, page 31 . He asked if Mayor <br /> Karp was aware there are a number of other bills similar to HR 140. He <br /> said it is a low-priority item as far as Congress is concerned. In <br /> response to questions from Mr. Filipovich, Mayor Karp said the U. S. <br /> Conference of Mayors is supporting the bill . Mr. Filipovich asked if <br /> our local Congress people who represent this District are supporting <br /> it. Mayor Karp said he hasn't talked to all of them but believes some <br /> of them are not. <br /> D. Lavern Anderson, 14951 - 159th Avenue, Representing the Bonaire Civic <br /> League, Inc. , said he was told by the League to congratulate the whole <br /> City Council on meeting with the Homeowners' Association last Thursday <br /> night. He especially thanked Council Members Polvorosa and Perry for <br /> their work with Cal -Trans. <br /> He also thanked Council Member Polvorosa for the breakfast meeting. He <br /> said these meetings are very important, and this should be done more <br /> often. He said the City Council did a good job when they came .to the <br /> meeting. <br /> Mayor Karp congratulated the Bonaire League for the attendance at their <br /> meeting. He noted June 25 is the official day for the opening of the <br /> Floresta Overpass. Mr. Anderson noted the Bonaire Picnic would be held <br /> on June 5 at Bonaire Park from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. <br />
