Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - July 19, 1993 Page - 6 -
NEW BUSINESS (continued)
Council Member Corbett said she had heard concerns from employees in the
area who said there is a lack of parking and they have to walk greater
distances to their places of employment. She asked if any questions had
been asked about how this parking restriction would impact employees and
their safety. She said people are especially concerned about having to
walk further to their cars. She asked if anyone looked at the other side
of the issue. She also asked if the medical facility provided off-street
parking for their employees.
Deane Howland, Traffic Engineer, said this issue. was not considered. He
said it was felt there was enough parking because this particular location
was far enough from the downtown area, and it would not affect downtown
parking.
Council Member Corbett asked where employees are supposed to park. Mr.
Howland said he wasn't involved in this matter and Dan Sullivan had handled
it. Council Member Corbett said she wanted more answers and wanted to look
at both sides of this issue.
Council Member Perry said the Downtown Parking Committee looked at specific
areas, unrestricted parking, etc. She said perhaps the map that was
developed should be reviewed by the Chamber of Commerce to see if the
issues have changed.
The following Motion was then introduced:
Minute Order No. 93-53. Matter of Resolution Deleting and Designating
Restricted Parking, Two-Hour Parking, 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. , Sundays and
Holidays Excepted, Joaquin Avenue, Title VI , Chapter 1 of the San Leandro
Municipal Code (provides for the extension of two-hour parking zone for
another 72 feet easterly on the north side of Joaquin Avenue between Santa
Maria Street and Bancroft Avenue) .
