Council Member Corbett noted a Chronicle article regarding the <br /> development of an agreement between Oakland/Berkeley/Richmond to deal <br /> with regional crime issues. She asked for additional information and <br /> for San Leandro to become involved. <br /> D. Council Member Kerr noted that cars are no longer being sold from the <br /> lot at Washington/Lewelling and said the action taken by staff has been <br /> very effective. <br /> E. Council Member Kerr said he and Mayor Faria attended the rehabilitation <br /> of the Fargo Gardens Apartments, now to be called Greenhouse Townhomes. <br /> He said the 122 units are being completely rehabilitated under new <br /> ownership and will be a great asset to the Washington Manor area and <br /> will eliminate police problems. <br /> F. Council Member Polvorosa said there are a lot of abandoned shopping <br /> carts around the Zelma Street area. <br /> G. Council Member Perry said she and Mayor Faria attended the Mayors' <br /> Conference where she spoke to Tom Bates, the proponent for a Regional <br /> Crime Issue group, and advised him to look farther than the Oakland <br /> border. She said the East Bay Division of the League of California <br /> Cities is also looking into fighting crime on a regional basis and will <br /> have a speaker in the next couple of months. <br /> H. Council Member Perry said Carol Whitesides of the Governor's Office <br /> addressed the East Bay Division on SB 16 to form a Constitutional <br /> Revision Commission. She said this will be discussed at the ABAG <br /> conference and she would report back to the Council . <br /> I . Council Member Perry said she has been appointed as the Statewide Chair <br /> of the League's Telecommunications Task Force. <br /> J. Mike Oliver, City Manager, said staff has been following the <br /> Legislative Analyst's recommendations; and, if sales tax is distributed <br /> as recommended, it would be a disaster greater than Prop. 13 and <br /> everything that's happened in the last three years. He said staff will <br /> be following this matter closely. <br /> K. Council Member Nahm said Scott Grubbs asked him to inform everyone of <br /> the San Leandro Historical Railway Society's Annual Christmas Show. He <br /> noted a tour of the depot with the Recreation and Parks Commission and <br /> said what they have done is quite impressive. <br /> L. Council Member Nahm said there has been a lot of attention in the media <br /> regarding his reputed candidacy in the upcoming election. He said he <br /> does not plan to be a candidate, has never had any plans to do so, has <br /> never collected any signatures, and has no committee. He said once he <br /> has completed his term on the Council he will find something else to <br /> do. <br />
