Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - May 2, 1994 Page - 16 - <br /> 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> A. Council Member Myers welcomed the new City Council Members on board. <br /> B. Council Member Loeffler said the hearing on the mural was a significant <br /> event. He commended the artists involved and suggested the City <br /> Council follow up on the idea of an Art Commission. <br /> C. Council Member Kerr congratulated the four successful candidates in the <br /> election. He noted Council Members will be serving food at McDonald's <br /> restaurants at the Green House Market Place and the downtown <br /> restaurant, and the proceeds would be donated to D.A.R.E. <br /> D. Council Member Polvorosa commended the Youth Partnership Crime <br /> Prevention Program held at Washington Manor and said Nancy Hillis had <br /> done a very good job. <br /> E. Council Member Polvorosa noted the recent Victoria Circle celebration <br /> and said it was a good event. <br /> F. Council Member Polvorosa noted the recent retirement party for John <br /> Castillo, former Executive Director of the Boys' and Girls' Club and <br /> said it was a wonderful event and Mr. Castillo deserves many accolades. <br /> G. Council Member Perry noted the proceeds from McDonald' s which will be <br /> donated to D.A.R.E. will be the result of a month-long affair, not just <br /> one day. <br /> H. Council Member Perry noted that a telecommunication policy was adopted <br /> by the League of California Cities and requested a Work Session to <br /> review this matter. <br /> I . Council Member Galvan noted a newspaper article which stated that, as <br /> a result of a police sub-station located at Hill Top Mall in Richmond, <br /> crime at the Mall had been reduced by 60%. He requested information on <br /> the possibility of a similar program at Bayfair Mall . <br /> J. Council Member Loeffler noted the recent "Battle of the Bands," <br /> sponsored by the Youth Advisory Commission and said it was very <br /> enjoyable. <br /> K. Mayor Corbett noted the successful Creek Cleanup, which was held over <br /> the weekend, and thanked the 50 people who worked at three different <br /> sites. <br /> L. Mayor Corbett said she participated in the "Teen Leadership Challenge <br /> Program," sponsored by Girls' , Inc. , and it was a powerful and moving <br /> experience. <br /> M. Mayor Corbett thanked her colleagues for their support at her first <br /> Council Meeting. <br />
