PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Galvan, Kerr, Loeffler, Myers, Perry, Polvorosa; <br /> Mayor Corbett <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> 4. PRESENTATIONS <br /> A. Presentation of Commendations to Players and Coaches of the San Leandro <br /> Police Athletic League Who Participated in This Year's Season-Ending <br /> PAL Tournament and Commendation to Representatives of the Oakland <br /> Athletics for their Support of the San Leandro PAL. <br /> Mayor Corbett spoke regarding the Police Athletic League (PAL) program. <br /> She said the program is in its second year; 80 children participated in <br /> 1993 and 180 in 1994. She said the program provides a wonderful <br /> opportunity for children to play baseball after the regular League play <br /> has ended and supports both boys' and girls' organized baseball . She <br /> said San Leandro PAL sponsored this year's season-ending Tournament <br /> with Oakland, Berkeley, and Martinez, when the Oakland A's went on <br /> strike. The event was co-sponsored by the San Leandro Unified School <br /> District, whose ball field was used for the Tournament. <br /> Mayor Corbett thanked the Washington Manor Junior Baseball League for <br /> its support in keeping the snack bar open for players throughout the <br /> season. <br /> She congratulated Terry's Troops, coached by Dan Paiva, for their fine <br /> playing, and Ricky's Posse, coached by Autrey James, which defeated <br /> Berkeley and Oakland teams to win the Tournament. The Mayor <br /> congratulated the players and their coaches on behalf of the City <br /> Council and presented certificates. <br /> Mayor Corbett also recognized three people from outside the community <br /> who were instrumental in promoting PAL: Dave Perron and Audrey <br /> Minagawa from the Oakland Athletics and Ron Exley, Program Development <br /> Director of the California Police Athletic League. <br />
