Resolution in Opposition to Proposed Budget Cuts in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office Budget. Council Member Corbett noted that, as a result of the proposed elimination of 48 Deputy District Attorneys in the District Attorney's • Office, misdemeanors might have to be prosecuted by City Attorneys, which means an additional cost to cities. She said she mentioned this matter to the Mayor, and the Mayor quickly took action to put together a Resolution that was sent to all Mayors in Alameda County. Council Member Santos said this is just one more example of the pressures being put upon cities and a raid on city coffers by other agencies. He said cities are going to have to get together and do something to stop this. He said this is one of the major reasons the City is having its current financial problems. He said he feels there will be further raids on the City's revenue as the State puts its budget together. Mayor Karp said cities will have to hire additional attorneys in order to prosecute misdemeanor cases and this will be an additional cost. He said every city should be taking action. He said he has talked to judges in both Superior and Municipal Courts, to members of the Board of Supervisors, and to Mr. Szalay to look at alternatives to this program, such as combining courts. The following Resolution was then introduced: RESOLUTION NO. 92-96 (2200) RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO PROPOSED BUDGET CUTS IN THE ALAMEDA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE BUDGET Introduced by Council Member Polvorosa, who moved its adoption, seconded by Council Member Corbett, and carried by the following called vote: AYES: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos; Mayor Karp ( 7 ) NOES: None ( 0 ) ABSENT: None ( 0 )
