Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - May 18, 1992 Page - 20 -
PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued)
Mr. Gray said he did agree with most of the recommendations except the
size of the "NO I-880 Exit" sign. He said he felt this was too large
and he would like to work to down size it or tie it in more
aesthetically.
Council Member Faria asked if the developer agreed with General
Condition XIV.E. Mr. Gray said yes they agreed with this Condition.
Mr. Gray said they are still working toward obtaining a restaurant for
the site.
Roy Parker, Transportation Administrator, said he is not requesting
standard traffic signing but is requesting that the existing signs be
changed to standard traffic control colors. He said he is concerned
that motorists exit the center on Marina Boulevard, cross four lanes of
traffic, and make a U-turn to access I-880. He said the current signs
are teal and white and he is proposing that the same outside frames be
used but that the signs be changed to white, Inter-State green and red,
in order to eliminate this turn movement. He said he is recommending
seven "To I-880" signs in the lot and one "No I-880 Exit" on the
driveway onto Marina Boulevard. He said it is his desire to make the
center and Marina Boulevard as successful as possible and to encourage
motorists to use the two lanes on Teagarden instead of cutting across
traffic on Marina Boulevard and making a U-turn. He discussed the
various locations for the signs. The City Council made various
suggestions and it was determined that Mr. Parker's suggestions would
be implemented and that he would report back in approximately six
months with the results.
The Hearing was then opened to the public.
Barbara Tierney, 3965 Mission Way, asked if the developer paid for the
signs. She noted that at K-Mart there were signs indicating "No Left
Turn" movements onto Washington Avenue and that the signs had been
knocked down and never replaced. She said she is afraid there will be
a lot of collisions on Marina Boulevard.
There being no further comments from the public, on motion of Council
Member Polvorosa, seconded by Council Member Kerr, and carried
unanimously, the Public Hearing was closed.
•
