She suggested that the Associated Student Body
representative and the Presidents of each class should be on the
committee.
Aaron Jesus, said, although he's a senior this year, he is still
concerned about his school in the future. He said students should be
on the committee. He said he feels nothing has changed at the schools
since October.
Glenn Hilton, President of Best Manor Homeowners Association, said Rich
Richardson represents the Homeowners' Association at School Board
Meetings so that the activities of the School Board can be discussed with
the Homeowners' Association. He said he fully backs the committee and
thinks members of the Police Department and students should be on the
committee.
Richard Collins, 558 Joaquin Avenue, pointed out that, although a seven-
member City Council cannot possibly represent the entire constituency
of the City, the community takes it on trust that their Council Members
do represent all interests. He said the proposed committee should be
composed of good and true citizens who can be trusted, and too many
members on the committee will have a detrimental effect on the
committee's ability to act. He said the group should be trusted to use
good judgment, look for all viewpoints, and faithfully report back.
Nicole Dean, 98 Dabner Street, said she feels the school representative
should not be the Associated Student Body representative because those
people are appointed through a popularity contest. She said there
should, however, be some representative from the school . She said even
though she is graduating, she would like to be on the committee because
her brother, who is going to school , is concerned. She also pointed out
the volunteer service to the schools, which should be applauded.
Makil Makki , Vice President of the African Student Union, said that,
overall , the problems are not as bad as they seem at the schools. There
are just certain incidents and people who are a problem. He said he is
a conflict manager, and he knows that just a few students are really bad
and they bring a bad attitude from home. He said students should be
available to work with the committee.
Arnaldo Diamas, 716 Sybil , said he has a lot of respect for the President
of the Student Body at San Leandro High School , but noted that she only
reports good activities to the School Board. He thinks it would be a
bad idea to invite students to be members of the committee because there
would be too much pressure on them from other students.
Scott Smith, 993 Lee Avenue, said he feels students should be on the
committee because they could give information and insight to the adults
who have the power to help.
