MINUTES <br /> SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> MAY 20, 1991 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in regular session in the City <br /> Council Chamber of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. , Mayor Karp <br /> presiding. <br /> 1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Santos; <br /> Mayor Karp <br /> ABSENT: Council Member Polvorosa Excused <br /> Mayor Karp noted that Council Member Polvorosa was excused due to illness. <br /> 4. PRESENTATIONS <br /> None Scheduled. <br /> 5. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> A. Janet Mohr, Chair of the Cherry Festival Board of Directors, distributed <br /> a hand-out with a schedule of Cherry Festival events and a map of the <br /> locations of events, and officially invited the City Council to <br /> participate. She noted that corporate sponsors are involved in the <br /> Festival this year and said Otis Spunkmeyer is providing a shuttle <br /> service for Marina Square and that Marina Square will be tieing the <br /> Cherry Festival into activities at their shopping center. She noted <br /> that the Cherry Festival celebration will welcome the troops home from <br /> - the Persian Gulf. <br /> B. Danny Maloon, 15096 Dewey Street, a 2nd-year Webelo, said he lives at <br /> the corner of Dewey Street and there are two stakes that are continually <br /> broken. <br /> C. Garry Loeffler, 235 Beiger Avenue, spoke regarding the Youth Advisory <br /> Commission. He said he felt the Commission was a very viable format <br /> in City government and that sometimes youth felt outside of government <br /> and needed to be included. He said this will provide a forum for youth <br /> to have a voice in matters that affect their lives. He said the youth <br /> should have input on a number of items such as fees, recreation space, <br /> City facilities, the City budget, etc. He recommended two-year terms <br /> and also recommended that the Commission involve sophomore students as <br /> well as juniors and seniors. He encouraged the City Council to approve <br /> formation of the Commission. <br />
