Matter of Nomination of Member to Human Resources Commission (District
6) - Nomination Pending. No action was taken.
D. Matter of Paratransit and Taxi Service.
Nancy Hillis, Administrative Assistant, Recreation-Human Resources
Department, said the City's current paratransit provider, Veteran's Cab
Company, is no longer able to meet the City's insurance requirements
and requested approval to terminate their contract. She noted that the
inability of taxi companies to comply with paratransit insurance
requirements is a County-wide problem. She is working with other cities
to obtain a contract with a paratransit-dedicated provider, but this
will take at least three months. She recommended that, in the meantime,
the City Council approve a contract with Goodwill Cab Company, with a
reduced insurance requirement from $500,000 to $350,000, through
December 1991, in order to allow the paratransit program to continue
without interruption. She said approximately 700 people utilize the
program, and it is very valuable to the community.
Mike Oliver, Assistant City Manager, said the Risk Manager had been
involved in this matter, and this was the best way to proceed in order
to avoid interruption of service.
