Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - August 19, 1991 Page - 24 - <br /> 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> A. Mayor Karp regretfully reported that Bob Surano and Mike Luciano, two <br /> of San Leandro's leading citizens, had passed away recently. <br /> The Mayor commented on Mr. Surano's long-time dedication to the City. <br /> He also said Mr. Luciano was a long-time resident of San Leandro, a <br /> businessman in the City, and an active force in the operations of the <br /> San Leandro Boys and Girls Club. <br /> Mayor Karp said that these two men will be missed by a great number of <br /> people in the City and asked that the meeting be adjourned in their <br /> honor. He said the Rosary for Mr. Luciano would be at Assumption <br /> Church, Wednesday, August 21 , 1991 , at 7:00 p.m. , and a funeral mass <br /> on Thursday, August 22, 1991 , at 9:30 a.m. <br /> Council Member Santos concurred that it will be appropriate to adjourn <br /> the meeting in the memory of these two men. <br /> B. Council Member Santos asked for a staff status report on O'Donnell Park. <br /> He also commented on an article he read in the newspaper reporting that <br /> the population of California will reach 50 million within the next 20 <br /> years. <br /> C. Council Member Corbett concurred regarding the comments about Bob Surano <br /> and Mike Luciano. She felt that Mr. Luciano was a strong supporter of <br /> the City and commented that he was often referred to as "Mr. San <br /> Leandro" or "Honorary Mayor" by members of the community. She thanked <br /> Mr. Luciano' s family for all that he and they have done for the <br /> community in the past years. <br /> D. Council Member Glaze concurred regarding the loss of Bob Surano and Mike <br /> Luciano. He also commented that Mr. George Salel has donated many years <br /> of service to the community and requested a resolution for a <br /> commendation for him. <br /> E. Council Member Polvorosa expressed his sympathies to the families of <br /> Bob Surano and Mike Luciano. Bob Surano' s golf friends and "breakfast" <br /> group will miss him dearly. He has always considered Mike Luciano a <br /> "big brother" and a mentor through the Boys and Girls Club. San Leandro <br /> will miss him, and the Polvorosa family will miss him. <br /> F. Council Member Polvorosa requested that the intersection of Davis at <br /> Alvarado be painted with a "Keep Clear" sign to keep the intersection <br /> clear. <br /> G. Council Member Perry echoed the sentiments of the Council regarding Bob <br /> Surano and Mike Luciano. She has known both men for many years and will <br /> always recall their words of encouragement and support. <br /> H. Council Member Perry complimented all of the Neighborhood Watch groups <br /> in the City that participated in National Night Out on August 6th. She <br /> sees the Neighborhood Watch program growing in the City and feels it <br /> is an important asset to the community. <br />
