Matter of Dangerous Dog Concerns - U.S. Postal Service.
Kelvin Mack, Field Director, Human Resources, Oakland Division of the
U.S. Postal Service, addressed the Council regarding dog bites. He said
many of his employees have been bitten by dogs, and he asked the City
for stricter enforcement of San Leandro's dangerous-dog ordinance. He
also asked the Council to explore the possibility of a more stringent
law. He expressed concerned as to how dog bites are investigated and
handled by San Leandro Animal Control personnel , and said his concerns
aren't just for postal employees, but extend to the welfare of seniors,
children and other individuals not aware of a particular dog's dangerous
nature. He concluded by asking the City to enforce tougher animal -
control regulations and to consider the possibility of a breed-specific
law addressing pit bulls.
