AN City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: February 18, 2014 <br />ONR x419 ` Staff Report <br />File Number: 13-536 Agenda Section: CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Agenda Number: 8.D. <br />TO: City Council <br />FROM: Chris Zapata <br />City Manager <br />BY: Uchenna Udemezue <br />Engineering & Transportation Director <br />FINANCE REVIEW: David Baum <br />Finance Director <br />TITLE: Staff Report for a Resolution Accepting the Work for the Annual Street Sealing <br />2012-13 Project, Project No. 2013.0070 <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Staff recommends acceptance of the work by Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc., filing of the <br />Notice of Completion, release of the performance and payment bonds, and release of the <br />maintenance bond upon completion of the one-year maintenance period. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Street sealing is a preventive maintenance measure used to prolong the useful life of streets. <br />The subject project combined work from fiscal years 2011-12 and 2012-13, and applied slurry <br />seal and scrub seal in the 2012 and 2013 Asphalt Maintenance Areas. <br />Asphalt rubber chip sealing was also applied during summer 2013 under a separate contract. <br />Street sealing involving asphalt rubber is performed by few contractors and was bid separately <br />to maximize the number of potential bidders for the subject contract. <br />Analysis <br />On March 18, 2013, the City Council awarded the construction contract for the subject project <br />to Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc. The work was inspected and complied with the contract <br />documents and City standards. Construction is now complete. <br />Previous Actions <br />• On June 4, 2012, by Resolution No. 2012-058, the City Council approved the plans and <br />specifications and called for bids for the Annual Street Sealing 2011-12 project <br />• On September 4, 2012, by Resolution No. 2012-099, the City Council rejected the bids <br />City of San Leandro Page 1 Printed on 2/12/2014 <br />
