City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: May 5, 2014 <br />Resolution - Council <br />Agenda Section:File Number:14-172 CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Agenda Number:8.E. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Chris Zapata <br />City Manager <br />BY:City Council <br />FINANCE REVIEW:Not Applicable <br />TITLE:RESOLUTION Supporting Measure AA (encourages voters to support the <br />Alameda County Essential Healthcare Services Initiative) <br />WHEREAS, Measure A, the Essential Healthcare Services initiative, was approved by <br />71 percent of Alameda county voters in 2004, and <br />WHEREAS, the funds generated from this measure has helped fortify a public safety <br />net for the residents that had been in dire straits before its passage. <br />funds emergency and trauma services, primary and preventive care, public health <br />initiatives and behavior health programs; and <br />WHEREAS, Measure A helps to ensure that all Alameda County residents have access <br />to quality healthcare; and <br />WHEREAS Measure A only may be reauthorized through a vote of Alameda County <br />residents; now <br />THEREFORE, be it resolved that the San Leandro City Council supports Measure AA, <br />which will appear on the June 3rd countywide ballot, to reauthorize and extend the Essential <br />Healthcare Services Measure, and urges community residents to vote yes to the ballot <br />question, which states: <br />“Without increasing the existing half-cent sales and use tax for essential health <br />services, to provide trauma and emergency medical services and primary, preventative <br />healthcare for local residents including low-income and uninsured children, families and <br />seniors, to prevent the closure of county clinics and hospitals and to recruit/retain <br />highly-qualified nurses and healthcare professionals, shall Alameda County extend the <br />essential healthcare services measure until June 2034 with annual fiscal oversight/review?” <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 4/29/2014
