•Thirty years ago more than 70 percent of children and teens walked or biked to school and now <br />only 30 percent of youth walk or bike to school. <br />•The objectives of the City of San Leandro’s Safe Routes to School Program are to increase the <br />safety, health and fitness of youth by decreasing traffic around schools, promoting walking and <br />bicycling to school and reducing pollution in their neighborhoods. <br />•The Program educates children, teens, school officials, teachers and parents while partnering <br />with community and city agencies to create safer streets. <br />•The City of San Leandro’s Safe Routes to School Program is made available to schools <br />through a grant provided by Caltrans. <br />City of San Leandro’s <br />Safe Routes to School Program
