City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: September 2, 2014 <br />Staff Report <br />Agenda Section:File Number:14-341 CITY MANAGER AND CITY <br />ATTORNEY REPORTS AND <br />COMMENTS <br />Agenda Number:6.C. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Chris Zapata <br />City Manager <br />BY:Lianne Marshall <br />Assistant City Manager <br />FINANCE REVIEW:Not Applicable <br />TITLE:City Manager Update on City Hall/Police Department Security Camera Project <br />SUMMARY <br />This report is for information only and no action is required at this time. <br />BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS <br />Phase 1 of the City Hall/Police Department security camera project was approved by the City <br />Council on July 21, 2014 . The Project is upgrade or installation of new security cameras and <br />related infrastructure in the first and second floors of City Hall, the City Hall basement, and the <br />Police Department basement (City jail). In total , 44 cameras will be installed in City Hall and <br />the Police Department, including the City jail. <br />All of the security cameras are capable of recording audio. However , staff plans to record <br />video only, with the exception of the City jail, which will record both audio and video. Cameras <br />throughout City Hall will have the audio disabled through specific hardware when they are <br />installed. <br />Previous City Council Actions <br />·On July 21, 2014, the City Council approved Phase 1 of the project to install the Civic <br />Center Security Camera System. <br />·On May 5, 2014, the City Council heard comments from the Police Department regarding <br />the Community Cameras Policy and provided direction for further analyses. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 8/26/2014
