File Number: 15-364 <br />City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: June 15, 2015 <br />Resolution - Council <br />Agenda Section: ACTION ITEMS <br />Agenda Number: <br />TO: <br />City Council <br />FROM: <br />Chris Zapata <br />City Manager <br />BY: <br />Sandra Spagnoli <br />Chief of Police <br />FINANCE REVIEW: David Baum <br />Finance Director <br />TITLE: <br />RESOLUTION Authorizing the Renaming of a Portion of Hays Street Between <br />East 14th Street and Davis Street to "Dan Niemi Way" in Honor of Officer <br />Killed in the Line of Duty <br />WHEREAS, Officer Dan Niemi was a member of the San Leandro Police Department <br />who honorably served the San Leandro community following his earning the title of Police <br />Officer in 2002; and <br />WHEREAS, on July 25, 2005, Officer Niemi was fatally wounded while serving in the <br />line of duty; and <br />WHEREAS, in honor of the upcoming 10 -year anniversary of his death, and as a <br />means of paying tribute to his sacrifice to the community, the City Council desires to rename <br />that section of Hays Street between East 14th Street and Davis Street to "Dan Niemi Way"; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, this proposal complies with subsections (a), (b)(2), (c), and (d) set forth in <br />Section 1.10.110 of the San Leandro Administrative Code. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Leandro City Council hereby <br />authorizes the renaming of the above -designated portion of Hays Street to "Dan Niemi Way;" <br />and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to submit this street name <br />change to the Alameda County Clerk -Recorder's Office for official recordation. <br />City of San Leandro Page 1 Printed on 6/9/2015 <br />
