City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: July 20, 2015 <br />Staff Report <br />Agenda Section:File Number:15-372 CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Agenda Number:8.N. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Chris Zapata <br />City Manager <br />BY: <br />FINANCE REVIEW:David Baum <br />Finance Director <br />TITLE:Staff Report For The Review And Approval Of A Resolution Authorizing The <br />City Manager To Accept Grant Funds From The California Department Of <br />Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), In The Amount Of $50,000, To Provide <br />Education And Targeted Enforcement Of Alcohol-Related Establishments In <br />San Leandro. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution to accept the one year grant award <br />totaling $50,000 from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). <br />BACKGROUND <br />The San Leandro Police Department has a public safety need for funding to conduct <br />inspections and targeted enforcement of alcohol-related violations at the 186 local <br />alcohol-related establishments (bars, stores and markets). The California Department of <br />Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) offers grant funding for these types of law enforcement <br />needs. The grant was approved for $50,000 to support a program and associated staff time <br />to manage the enforcement efforts. A portion of the funds will be used for educational <br />purposes to reduce youth and underage access to purchasing alcohol, as well as to provide <br />alcohol sales and access training to all the ABC licensed establishments in San Leandro. <br />Fiscal Impact <br />The acceptance of the grant will not impact the General Fund. If approved, the City will <br />receive $50,000 to provide funding for inspections and targeted enforcement of <br />alcohol-related establishments in San Leandro and expenditures will be captured in special <br />revenue account 150-21-048. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 7/14/2015
