City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: January 4, 2016 <br />Staff Report <br />Agenda Section:File Number:15-692 CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Agenda Number:8.G. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Chris Zapata <br />City Manager <br />BY:Jeanette Dong <br />Recreation and Human Services Director <br />FINANCE REVIEW:David Baum <br />Finance Director <br />TITLE:Staff Report for Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Accept Grant <br />Funds in the Amount of $40,000 from the PLAY 60, Play On Initiative <br />Presented by 50 Fund and the NFL Foundation <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution to accept a one-time grant award of <br />$40,000 from the PLAY 60, Play On initiative presented by 50 Fund and the NFL Foundation <br />and to appropriate the funds. <br />BACKGROUND <br />PLAY 60, Play On initiative presented by 50 Fund and the NFL Foundation, is putting kids and <br />families first in the San Francisco Bay Area by transforming everyday spaces into places for <br />play. Guided by KaBOOM!, $750,000 in grant funding was available to 21 Bay Area cities, <br />nonprofit organizations, businesses and individuals through a competitive grant process. <br />On October 16, 2015 the Recreation and Human Services Department applied for a $40,000 <br />grant to host five (5) community based events to bring fun, art, and adventure into <br />underutilized spaces. Utilizing partnerships with mobile artists and vendors in the community, <br />these interactive and dynamic events will create innovative and community connections <br />through fun, play based activities. Creating community play opportunities for all ages will <br />bring together the San Leandro community and revitalize spaces to spark creativity and fun. <br />The City will facilitate securing spaces and transforming spaces into innovative play areas that <br />promote fun, art, and positive social experience. <br />If appropriated, the $40,000 in grant funds will be utilized for the following five (5) events: <br />1. Cherry Festival 2016 - Art & Innovation Space; <br />2. Teen Takeover 2016 - to host one weekly session <br />3. School District Partnership - one event hosted at a school site <br />4.
