City of San Leandro
Meeting Date: February 1, 2016
Staff Report
Agenda Section:File Number:15-731 CONSENT CALENDAR
Agenda Number:8.F.
TO:City Council
FROM:Chris Zapata
City Manager
BY:Keith Cooke
Engineering & Transportation Director
FINANCE REVIEW:David Baum
Finance Director
TITLE:Staff Report for a Resolution Providing Authorization of a 14% Contract
Change Order ($5,961.98) for the Construction Contract with A Good Sign &
Graphics Company for the Downtown Garage Parking Sign Project, Project
No. 2013.0341
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize a Contract Change Order of 14%
($5,961.98) for the subject project resulting in a total contract of $49,786.98. The project
budget has sufficient allocation to fund the increased cost.
BACKGROUND
The Downtown Parking Garage exterior was designed to complement and fit in with existing
downtown building architecture and not appear as a typical parking structure. The garage
construction contract included only minimal signage. To increase parking usage, improved
and attractive signage was desired to make the facility more inviting and to make the
entrances easier to find. Subsequently, the City entered into a construction contract with A
Good Sign and Graphics Co. to install signage at three locations at the Downtown Parking
Garage. Authorization was not included in the awarding resolution for change orders on this
project and therefore this action provides for this ability.
Analysis
Site conditions encountered during installation were different from those anticipated during the
design phase, electrical conduits thought to have room for new wires were found to be full.
Additional work to install new electrical conduits and complete the project is required.
Previous Actions
Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 1/26/2016
