20 <br />LONG-TERM PUBLIC ART DISTRICT PLANS <br />RECOMMENDATION 16 <br />Create specific public art plans for areas of San Leandro where development is taking place. <br />OVERVIEW <br />An option for the City to employ the percent for art requirement to enhance its <br />neighborhoods, shopping districts, and transportation corridors is to retain the <br />services of a consultant to develop a series of area-specific art plans throughout <br />the city that would identify locations, types of art, and media appropriate for the <br />area that would help reinforce the distinct character of these districts and make <br />them more desirable destinations. Developers could review the plan relevant to <br />the area in which they are building and choose to pay the in-lieu fee toward the <br />realization of the artwork identified in the plan. Arts and Culture Program staff <br />would be responsible for implementing these plans. <br />The following are current Community Development projects that may be <br />candidates for an area-specific art plan.
