IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 2017-149 <br /> RESOLUTION AFFIRMING THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO'S COMMITMENT TO <br /> THE "CITY AS A PLATFORM MANIFESTO," TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT <br /> AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SMART CITY TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATION <br /> WHEREAS, it is an established goal of the San Leandro City Council to advance projects <br /> and programs promoting sustainable economic development, including transforming San Leandro <br /> into a center for innovation; and <br /> WHEREAS, San Leandro has taken strides toward becoming a center for innovation by <br /> embracing and implementing high-speed connectivity, open data, and emerging technologies; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City of San Leandro has and will continue to actively seek opportunities <br /> to collaborate with other like-minded communities to share information and best practices; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City of San Leandro was represented at the TM Forum Smart City <br /> InFocus Conference in Yinchuan, China in September 2017 in order to build connections and share <br /> information with other communities from around the world; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro supports the development of a shared collaborative <br /> framework between residents, the public and private sector to drive the desired outcome of <br /> sustainability, inclusivity and targeted innovation that benefits cities and their residents; and <br /> WHEREAS, by understanding, adapting and applying platform business model principles, <br /> cities can become regional or global knowledge hubs and innovation centers. Cities that do this <br /> will become better places to live and be better equipped to manage urban challenges—with more <br /> insight,precision and transparency. They will attract talent, create jobs and unleash innovation. <br /> NOW,THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as <br /> follows: <br /> That the City Council of the City of San Leandro supports the following tenets of the City <br /> as a Platform Manifesto, as developed by the TM Forum and directs staff to sign the manifesto on <br /> behalf of the City: <br /> 1. City platforms must enable services that improve the quality of life in cities; benefitting <br /> residents, the environment, and helping to bridge the digital divide; <br /> 2. City platforms must bring together both public and private stakeholders in digital <br /> ecosystems; <br /> 3. City platforms must support sharing economy principles and the circular economy <br /> agenda; <br />
