Summary
Connect the San Leandro Family Aquatics Center at Washington Park to the City’s network through fiber or a
wireless connection.
Description
The project will provide for a fiber optic connection from the Washington Manor Library to the San Leandro Family
Aquatics Center. The fiber optic connection should not affect the speed of the public internet connection at the library
since this is for the City network. The project will also evaluate a wireless connection based on the following
assumptions: A line of sight between Washington Manor Park and the Manor Library. Assumes the installation of
an antenna directly on the manor Library structure and an antenna on a new park light at Washington Manor Park.
Connection from antenna to San Leandro Family Aquatics Center building will be by open trench installation.
Justification or Benefit of Project
A fiber connection will allow staff to complete registration for programs consistently and access the City’s financial
system and other computer applications. At this time it is unreliable and very slow to process registration; which can
lead to financial and registration errors. Staff needs to come to City Hall to access the other City computer
applications. Based on 2010 numbers, it will save the City $2,700 annually.
Consequences of not doing the Project
Continue to provide unsatisfactory customer service and problems with financial accounting and program enrollment.
The alternative would be to increase bandwidth of the internet connection at the facility; which would triple the annual
cost.
Project Numb 2007.0162Project Typ Pools
Detailed Cost $270,000 Status Retired
Department/Sponsor Recreation & Human Servic
Impact to Operation Cost Impact to Maintenance Cost
Likely Cost
Categor
Project Name Family Aquatics Center Fiber Connection
141
