10 <br />YEARS OF SERVICE DAYS/HRS OF <br />VACATION ACCRUAL <br />0-4.99 completed yrs of svc. 12.00/96 or 15.00/120 <br />5.00-5.99 yrs of service 15.75/126 <br />6.00-6.99 yrs of service 16.50/132 <br />7.00-7.99 yrs of service 17.25/138 <br />8.00-8.99 yrs of service 18.00/144 <br />9.00-9.99 yrs of service 18.75/150 <br />10.00-10.99 yrs of service 19.50/156 <br />11.00-11.99 yrs of service 20.25/162 <br />12.00-12.99 yrs of service 21.00/168 <br />13.00-13.99 yrs of service 21.75/174 <br />14.00-14.99 yrs of service 22.50/180 <br />15.00-15.99 yrs of service 23.25/186 <br />16.00-16.99 yrs of service 24.00/192 <br />17.00-17.99 yrs of service 24.75/198 <br />18.00 or more yrs of service 25.00/200 <br />A newly hired employee holding a full-time position shall be entitled to vacation leave at <br />the rate of 96 hours per year; however, if a newly hired employee possesses five (5) years <br />of law enforcement experience, he/she shall accrue vacation leave at the rate of 120 hours <br />per year. <br />In the year in which an employee holding a full-time position completes five (5) full years <br />of City service, such employee shall be entitled to 126 hours of vacation for service <br />performed. For each full year of full-time City service completed thereafter, 6 hours of <br />vacation shall be added up to a maximum of 200 hours of vacation. <br />14.3 If a member is on medical leave as a result of an on-duty injury or illness, the member's <br />vacation accrual shall continue. Upon return to duty, the member shall utilize the vacation <br />accrued while on medical leave within twelve (12) months of return to duty. The vacation <br />utilization shall be in accordance with established department vacation sign-up <br />procedures. <br />14.4 Employees shall be allowed to sell up to 120 hours of vacation per year. The conversion <br />will be based upon the hourly rate at the time of the sell back. Time may be sold twice <br />annually in June and December. <br />Section 15. Sick Leave <br />The object of sick leave is to provide orderly methods of furthering the health and safety of each <br />employee as well as aiding in the maintenance of productivity. <br />Sick leave is not a right, which an employee can use at his or her discretion, but a privilege, which <br />can be allowed only in case of actual sickness, or non-job-incurred injury of such employee, or of <br />such employee's immediate family, which compels the employee to be absent from work. <br />In order to qualify for paid sick leave, notification must be given to the work unit supervisor as <br />soon as practicable, but at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the start of the regular work day. <br />Waiver of this reporting requirement can be made by the Police Chief only, and only in specific <br />78
