• While teaching at San Leandro High, saw the community makeup changing, and became <br />the first Chief of Police to actively hire Persons of Color to more closely represent the <br />diversity of San Leandro <br />• Was an early adopter of the best practice of “Community Policing” <br />• 1999 - Retired as Chief of Police after 32 Years of Service (1967 – 1999) <br />• After retirement was recruited by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department to be an <br />Assistant Sheriff <br />• Was sought for his progressive ideas around recruiting and training <br />• Helped shape the Regional Training Center by expanding the scope of training and <br />partnering with the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District <br />169
