<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Declaring June 2021 as Pride Month in San Leandro <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro cherishes the value and dignity of each person and appreciates the <br />importance of equality and freedom; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro denounces prejudice and unfair discrimination based on age, gender <br />identity, gender expression, race, color, religion, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, or physical <br />attributes as an affront to our fundamental principles; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Pride month began in June of 1969 on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising <br />in New York City after LGBTQ+ and allied friends rose up and fought against public harassment and <br />discriminatory laws that have since been declared unconstitutional; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro appreciates the cultural, civic, and economic contrib utions of the <br />LGBTQ+ community, all of whom strengthen our community and enrichen its diversity; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, many LGBTQ+ residents & seniors have provided decades of hard work to organize their <br />communities by taking risks and making many sacrifices to pave the way for the civil rights we enjoy today; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Lavender Seniors of the East Bay has been at the forefront in providing advocacy and <br />education to promote broader understanding of diversity by helping to establish greater safety and services for <br />seniors, youth, and other residents, and has created a policy of collaborating for the betterment and improvement <br />of society by bridging resources to fill unmet needs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Lavender Seniors of the East Bay has served and cared for LGBTQ+ seniors since <br />1994 and is now celebrating its 27th anniversary of service this year; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS it is imperative that all people in our community, regardless of sexual orientation, gender <br />identity or expression, feel valued, safe, empowered, and supported by their peers and community leaders; and <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Pauline <br />Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim the <br />month of June 2021 as “PRIDE MONTH” and I encourage the <br />Leandro community to join me in related celebrations, along with <br />honoring the 27th Anniversary of the Lavender Seniors of the East Bay <br /> <br /> <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my <br />hand and caused the Seal of the City of San Leandro to <br />be affixed this seventh day of June 2021. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 13
