When prime coat not authorized by ENGINEER is applied, remove <br />unauthorized prime coat by abrasive blasting in accordance with SSPC SP- <br />10. <br />7. Shop applied bituminous paint or asphalt varnish: Abrasive blast clean shop <br />applied bituminous paint or asphalt varnish from surfaces scheduled to <br />receive non-bituminous coatings. <br />L. Abrasive blast cadmium-plated, zinc-plated, or sherardized fasteners in same <br />manner as unprotected metal when used in assembly of equipment designated <br />for abrasive blasting. <br /> <br />M. Abrasive blast components to be attached to surfaces which cannot be abrasive <br />blasted before components are attached. <br /> <br />N. Grind sharp edges to approximately 1/16-inch radius before abrasive blast <br />cleaning. <br />O. Remove and grind smooth all excessive weld material and weld spatter before <br />blast cleaning in accordance with NACE SP0178. <br /> <br />P. PVC and FRP Surfaces: <br />1. Prepare surfaces to be coated by light sanding (de-gloss) and wipe-down with <br />clean cloths, or by solvent cleaning in strict accordance with coating <br />manufacturer's instructions. <br /> <br />Q. Cleaning of previously coated surfaces: <br />1. Utilize cleaning agent to remove soluble salts such as chlorides and sulfates <br />from concrete and metal surfaces: <br />a. Cleaning agent: Biodegradable non-flammable and containing no volatile <br />organic compounds. <br />b. Manufacturer: The following or equal: <br />2. Chlor-Rid International, Inc. <br />3. Steam clean and degrease surfaces to be coated to remove oils and grease. <br />4. Cleaning of surfaces utilizing the decontamination cleaning agent may be <br />accomplished in conjunction with abrasive blast cleaning, steam cleaning, <br />high pressure washing, or hand washing as approved by the coating <br />manufacturer's representative and the ENGINEER. <br />5. Test cleaned surfaces in accordance with the cleaning agent manufacturer's <br />instructions to ensure all soluble salts have been removed. Additional <br />cleaning shall be carried out as necessary. <br />6. Final surface preparation prior to application of new coating system shall be <br />made in strict accordance with coating manufacturer's printed instructions. <br /> <br />3.03 MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT PREPARATION <br />A. Remove grilles, covers, and access panels for mechanical and electrical system <br />from location and coat separately. <br />B.
