<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />April 2022 as Autism Awareness Month <br /> <br />WHEREAS, autism is a developmental disability characterized by atypical development in socialization, <br />communication and behavior; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the symptoms of autism typically are present before age three years and often are accompanied <br />by abnormalities in cognitive functioning, learning, attention and sensory processing; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, autism affects one in every 59 children in the United States and can affect anyone, regardless <br />of race, ethnicity, or other factors; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the parents and relatives of individuals with autism are commended for their sacrifice and <br />dedication in providing for the special needs of individuals with autism; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, worker training programs that are tailored to the needs of autistic individuals are vital, as <br />people with autism can be, and are, productive members of the workforce when given appropriate support, training <br />and early intervention services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the U.S. House and Senate passed resolution H. Con. Res. 303 on February 25, 2008, <br />recognizing the importance of autism awareness, of the need to support individuals with autism and the family <br />members, teachers, physicians, and other professionals who care for individuals with autism; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, individuals with autism, like all others, should have the opportunity to realize their ambitions <br />and lead rewarding lives. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim April <br />2022 as “Autism Awareness Month” in San Leandro as a symbol of our commitment to creating a culture of <br />disability awareness and inclusion for all members of our community. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand <br />and caused the Seal of the City of San Leandro to be <br />affixed this 4th day of April, 2022. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
