City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: May 16, 2022 <br />Presentation <br />Agenda Section:File Number:22-277 RECOGNITIONS <br />Agenda Number:2.d. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Fran Robustelli <br />City Manager <br />BY:Tom Liao <br />Community Development Director <br />FINANCE REVIEW:Not Applicable <br />TITLE:Proclaiming May 1-7, 2022, as Small Business Week <br />WHEREAS, National Small Business Week is a significant moment in the year to salute our small <br />businesses for their countless contributions to our community; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro recognizes and values the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit <br />of small businesses within our community; and <br />WHEREAS, small businesses are the backbone of our economy and keep our community and the <br />state and America’s economies growing strong; and <br />WHEREAS, when we support small businesses, jobs are created, and local communities can preserve <br />their unique culture; and <br />WHEREAS, because the United States’ 28 million small businesses create nearly two out of every <br />three jobs in its economy, we cannot resolve ourselves to create jobs and spur economic growth without <br />discussing ways to support entrepreneurs; and <br />WHEREAS, there are more than 2,700 small businesses in the City of San Leandro employing 25 or <br />fewer people, many of them minority- and women-owned; and <br />WHEREAS, the majority of businesses most severely impacted by the economic fallout of COVID -19 are <br />small businesses; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro and the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce support and join <br />in the national effort to help small businesses grow their business, create jobs, and ensure that our community <br />remains as vibrant tomorrow as it is today. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, do hereby <br />proclaim May 1-7, 2022, as “Small Business Week” in the City of San Leandro. <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 5/11/2022
