The Committee recommends that the Guidelines be modified to state that the Mayor's Base Salary be established as "two times the amount of a Council Member" and that the Mayor's maximum salary be established as "three times the Council salary." BACKGROUND On September 27, 2001 the City Council Rules and Communications Committee reviewed city council and mayor compensation for the cities of Alameda County. Following that review and discussion the Committee directed that the issue of Council and Mayoral compensation be considered by the entire Council. At the October 15, 2001 City Council Meeting staff was directed to prepare ordinances establishing City Council monthly pay at $1,021 and the Mayor's base salary at $2,000 per month, and further authorizing payment of $30 per meeting for Redevelopment Agency members. The Committee also recommended that a policy be enacted acknowledging that the Mayor's position is part-time (or is not required to be full-time). The change in Council and Mayoral salaries will commence January 1, 2003. The payment to Redevelopment Agency members will commence following adoption of the ordinance. Current City Council Policy The City Council's current monthly pay is $816 per month. The increase to $1,021 per month was approved by the City Council on November 5, 2001 and is based upon the limits established by State law. The Mayor's salary was referred '75
