4. Update on Manor Library Proposition 14 Grant Application
Library Director Bohne reported that the City has been working with District staff on a grant
application for Proposition 14 State Bond grant money. He stressed the importance of
partnerships in obtaining grant funding. The City and District have decided to focus on three key
areas of development- a computer center, a family literacy center and a homework center. The
roles of the School District and City were then reviewed. (See attached report for additional
information.) It was agreed that the City would provide the District a resolution for the project
for approval at the May 7 meeting. The grant application is due June 14.
5. Committee Member Comments
Councilmember Santos volunteered to visit classrooms during government class.
Councilmember Loeffler discussed the Councilmembers visit to the Department of Education
(DOE) in Washington D.C. during the National League of Cities conference in March. He stated
that it may be beneficial if the District appointed a trustee to attend the conference in the future
so that they could provide information to the DOE regarding the issues facing the District.
Discussion regarding federal government understanding and interest in the California educational
system ensued.
6. Public Comments
Bob Leigh expressed his appreciation to the City for holding a meeting regarding the proposed
Caltrans project.
7. Adjourn
The meeting was adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
GADEPTAssistant TO CM\Cynthia\CommissionCouncil\Highlights\City-SLzSDLiaisonMtg4-9.doc
