4. Update on Manor Library Proposition 14 Grant Application <br />Library Director Bohne reported that the City has been working with District staff on a grant <br />application for Proposition 14 State Bond grant money. He stressed the importance of <br />partnerships in obtaining grant funding. The City and District have decided to focus on three key <br />areas of development- a computer center, a family literacy center and a homework center. The <br />roles of the School District and City were then reviewed. (See attached report for additional <br />information.) It was agreed that the City would provide the District a resolution for the project <br />for approval at the May 7 meeting. The grant application is due June 14. <br />5. Committee Member Comments <br />Councilmember Santos volunteered to visit classrooms during government class. <br />Councilmember Loeffler discussed the Councilmembers visit to the Department of Education <br />(DOE) in Washington D.C. during the National League of Cities conference in March. He stated <br />that it may be beneficial if the District appointed a trustee to attend the conference in the future <br />so that they could provide information to the DOE regarding the issues facing the District. <br />Discussion regarding federal government understanding and interest in the California educational <br />system ensued. <br />6. Public Comments <br />Bob Leigh expressed his appreciation to the City for holding a meeting regarding the proposed <br />Caltrans project. <br />7.
