The Human Services Commission supported the request for emergency grant funds for
the following reasons:
1. BFWC has a long history of professionally and effectively providing emergency
food, housing and support services to homeless women & children.
2. The agency consistently meets their Community Assistance and Community
Development Block Grant obligations.
3. The agency has identified the sources of the problem and has developed a plan of
corrective action.
4. The agency is requesting funding assistance from other sources in addition to San
Leandro, and has received notice that the San Francisco Foundation has approved
a $25,000 grant.
5. Failure to make up the deficit will result in reduced services to San Leandro
residents.
BACKGROUND
Current City Council Policy
The City Council currently provides operating funds and capital improvement project
funds for BFWC through the Community Assistance and Community Development
Block Grant Programs.
Previous City Council Action(s)
NA
City Council Committee Review and Action
NA
Applicable General Plan Policy
NA
Permits and/or Variances Granted
NA
Environmental Review'
NA
Code Compliance Review
NA
Board/Commission Findings
On February 27, 2002, the Human Services Commission considered, and voted to
support the emergency grant request.
Summary Of Public Outreach Efforts
NA
