The Committee recommends that the
City Council adopt Amendment No. 4 to the Council Member's Handbook, adding the
Guidelines to the reference section.
BACKGROUND
At their May 23, 2002 meeting, the City Council Rules and Communications Committee
discussed the need for the development of standards and guidelines for town hall meetings.
Based upon direction provided by the committee, the attached "Guidelines for Council Member
Town Hall Meetings" was developed for inclusion in the City Council Handbook.
The guidelines are intended to provide guidance should a Council Member want to hold a
town hall meeting in their District. The guidelines address the process Council Members
should follow to plan a town hall meeting, including the necessary tasks and the responsible
party for ensuring the tasks are completed. Also included are standards to ensure that a
minimum level of City staff attend the meeting. The guidelines are not intended to restrict
Council Members from organizing or holding a town hall meeting in any way.
Current City Council Policy
Not Applicable
Previous City Council Action(s)
Not Applicable
