OWN City of San Leandro Civic Center, 835 E. 14th Street San Leandro, California 94577 August 15, 2001 Mayor Shelia Young and the San Leandro City Council City of San Leandro 835 East 14th Street San Leandro CA 94577 Dear Mayor Young and San Leandro City Council Members: Eden Information and Referral Service (Eden I & R) has been operating in and for the County of Alameda for 25 years. The agency assists people in obtaining information and gaining access to social services. In addition to providing telephone referral services, Eden I & R publishes the Big Blue Book (a directory of human service resources for Alameda County) which is used by cities, community based organizations, the faith community and many others. In their continuing efforts to expand services and better serve the residents of Alameda County, Eden I & R is proposing to implement an Online Social Service Information Service. This service will provide Internet access to over 1200 Alameda County Health and Human Service resources. We, the members of the San Leandro Human Services Commission, have unanimously voted to support this endeavor. Eden I & R is requesting multi -year funding from each city in Alameda County, based on the percentage of listings for that city listed in the Big Blue Book. San Leandro has been asked to contribute 4% or $5,000 per year, with a multi -year commitment. The Human Resources Commission is recommending that the City Council provide one-year funding for fiscal year 2001-02, to be re-evaluated in subsequent years. We urge the Mayor and City Council to fund this project as we feel it will benefit all segments of our City, including children, adults and seniors.
