Following that review and discussion, the committee directed that the
issue of Council and Mayoral compensation be considered by the entire Council.
At the October 15, 2001, City Council meeting, staff was directed to prepare
ordinances establishing City Council monthly pay at $1,050 and the Mayor's base
salary at $2,000 per month, and further authorizing payment of $30 per meeting
for Redevelopment Agency members. The committee also recommended that a
policy be enacted acknowledging that the Mayor's position is part-time (or is not
required to be full-time).
The change in Council and Mayoral salaries will commence January 1, 2003. The
payment to Redevelopment Agency members will commence following adoption
of the ordinance.
Current City Council Policy
The City Council's current monthly pay is $816 per month. The increase to
$1,050 per month is based upon the limits established by State law. A salary
increase for the City Council members may not exceed 5% per year (not
compounded) from the operative date of the last salary adjustment. The Mayor's
32S
