PAULA FRESCHI KAMENA
11 Sagebrush Court
San Rafael, CA 94901
TEL: (415) 460-6365
FAX: (415) 460-6367
September 3. 2000 (IM MANJAGEH
Mr. Luke Sims SEP - 5 2000
Development Services
Civic Center - 835 E. 14th Street CITY OF SAM I_FANDIR0
San Leandro, CA 94577
RE: APN 413-0003-001-03/ 15555 Hesperian Blvd., San Leandro
Dear Mr. Sims,
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me regarding the notice I received about
the public hearing on September 18, 2000. As I understand it, the hearing will be to
consider inclusion of a portion of the Target/Baker's Square property in the eminent
domain power of the San Leandro Redevelopment Agency. The property in question is
owned in equal shares by the Brunetti Trust, and my family. L. Shelly Eisaman is the
asset manager for Wells Fargo Trust Real Estate who handles the Brunetti interest. I am
writing on behalf of my family and Shelly Eisaman for the Brunetti Trust.
From our conversation, I understand that the City is interested in maintaining a
commercially feasible business on the corner of Lewelling and Hesperian, and is concerned
that this might not occur without the City's assistance. Apparently, the concern was
generated by the closure of the Tosco -owned gas station, and the potential for closure of
the Kragen Auto store because of the opening of its companion store across the street.
We want to assure you that we fully intend to do everything in our power to see that
the corner of this very attractive property remains occupied by a business that will be
mutually beneficial. The gas station and the auto parts store are the sub -tenants of
Target. We are working with Target on the issue of this area now.
We are pleased that we have the same goals for this property, but vehemently object to
the use of eminent domain capability to achieve these goals. We are happy to work
with you, but without the potential for eminent domain.
Based on our conversation, I understand that upon receiving this letter, our objection
will be noted, and the official recommendation will be to remove this parcel from the
amendment to the Redevelopment plan. We thank you very much for understanding
our concerns. I look forward to meeting you on September 18th.
Sincerely,
Paula Freschi Kamena
