City and San Leandro Unified School District Liaison Committee Meeting of <br />April 6, 1999 -- Council Member Loeffler reported on the meeting <br />highlights. <br />2. Mayor's Human Relations Council Meeting of April 6, 1999 — Mayor Young <br />reported on the meeting highlights. <br />3. Finance Committee, FY 1999-2000, Meeting of April 8, 1999 — Mayor <br />Young reported on the meeting highlights. <br />4. Facilities Committee Meeting of April 13, 1999 -- Council Member Glaze <br />reported on the meeting highlights. <br />C. City Council Comments <br />1. Council Member Glaze inquired if Caltrans would have to file an EIR to open <br />up Interstate 580 to truck traffic. Staff was not able to respond to the <br />question, but the Mayor suggested waiting until later in the meeting to discuss <br />the matter further. <br />2. Council Member Loeffler reported on his attendance at the "DEAR" (Drop <br />Everything and Read Program) and commended Police Chief Bob Maginnis for <br />his participation. <br />3. Mayor Young thanked Council Member Loeffler for attending the DEAR <br />Program on her behalf and further reported that there will be a groundbreaking <br />for the Boy Scouts' property on April 21, 1999. <br />The Mayor also reported on the receipt of a Child Abuse Prevention Award, <br />presented to the City of San Leandro for supporting the Calico Center. She <br />suggested to the City Council that there be somewhere in City Hall designated <br />as a place to exhibit these awards and/or trophies the City receives. <br />The Mayor also suggested that the Council think about instituting a <br />Celebrations Committee to deal with specific events and such. <br />- 71 <br />
