CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />STAFF REPORT <br />Date: May 20, 1999 <br />To: John Jermanis, City Manager <br />From: Wandzia GrycA4QZ-RyManager <br />APPROVED AND <br />FORWARDED <br />TO CITY COUNCIL <br />4Jo LiJermanisCiger <br />(2bSb� <br />Subject: Amendment to the City Council Handbook re: Guidelines for City Council <br />Members Seeking Outside Governmental Appointments <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />The City Council Rules and Communications Committee recommends that the City Council <br />approve the recommended guidelines for City Council Members seeking outside governmental <br />appointments as an amendment to the City Council Handbook. This item will be placed on the <br />City Council's June 7, 1999 agenda for Council's consideration. <br />DISCUSSION <br />At the Rules and Communications Committee meeting of April 27, 1999, the Committee <br />discussed the issue of Council Members seeking outside governmental appointments. Committee <br />Members agreed on the following recommended guidelines for inclusion in the City Council <br />Handbook: <br />Outside Governmental Appointments <br />If a Council Member decides to seek an outside governmental appointment (e.g., through the <br />State or National League of Cities), the following guidelines will be observed: <br />• Staff support will not be provided to assist in the appointment application process or any <br />follow-up thereof, <br />• The City will not pay Travel Per Diem for travel associated with the appointment process; <br />• There will be no commitments of other City resources to assist in the appointment process. <br />CONCLUSION <br />The City Council Rules and Communications Committee recommends that the City Council <br />approve the attached guidelines for inclusion in the City Council Handbook. <br />15 .. <br />
