SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION At the July 12, 1999 City Council Work Session, the West San Leandro Advisory Committee presented the West San Leandro Advisory Committee Report and Recommendations. The report identifies critical challenges impacting the quality of life in west San Leandro and includes a list of recommendations to guide future City initiatives in the west San Leandro area. The City Council directed staff to bring the Committee Report and Recommendations back to the City Council for adoption. Staff recommends that the City Council: (1) adopt the West San Leandro Advisory Committee Report and Recommendations dated July 6, 1999; and (2) direct staff to work with the committee members to proceed with a series of public outreach meetings. BACKGROUND In September 1997, Council Member Joanne Lothrop sponsored a tour of west San Leandro. The purpose of the tour was to generate a community dialogue regarding the assets of this unique area and the challenges resulting from its diversity. As a result of these discussions, the City Council appointed the West San Leandro Advisory Committee. The mission of the Advisory Committee was to identify the challenges facing the west San Leandro area and to develop a list of recommendations to guide City initiatives in the area.
