Jermanis <br />Manager <br />COURTS BY McGUIRE AND <br />McGuire and Hester Construction Company has offered to construct two sand volleyball courts <br />at Marina Park at no cost to the City. On May 11, 1999, the City Council Facilities Committee <br />met to consider this offer. <br />The Committee recommends that the City accept the offer to construct the volleyball courts. <br />This report is for information only, and no action is required. <br />BACKGROUND <br />McGuire and Hester Construction Company, based in Oakland, has constructed many projects in <br />and for the City of San Leandro over the past years. In the summer of 1998, staff was <br />approached by principals of the firm wishing to perform some community service project in the <br />City. Staff of Engineering and Transportation, Community Service, Public Works Services, and <br />McGuire and Hester toured several potential projects including upgrades at the swimming pool at <br />San Leandro High School, repair of tennis courts at Cherry Grove Park, and construction of sand <br />volleyball courts at Marina Park. It was determined that the work involved with volleyball court <br />construction was more in keeping with the expertise of McGuire and Hester and that the new <br />courts would enhance the play value of the north area of Marina Park. <br />A plan for the construction of two new sand volleyball courts in the turf area of Marina Park <br />south of the north restrooms has been prepared. The plans consider the site conditions and detail <br />the construction to make this donation a permanent asset to Marina Park. The concept of the <br />sand volleyball courts was presented to the City Council Facilities Committee in May 1999, and <br />141 <br />
