IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 98- <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING AN ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY FOR THE PLACEMENT OF <br />DIRECTIONAL SIGNS FOR BUSINESS DISTRICTS, RECREATIONAL FACILITIES, <br />RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS, GOVERNMENT FACILITIES AND SHOPPING CENTERS IN <br />THE PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY <br />1. The City of San Leandro currently has a directional sign policy for religious <br />institutions and government related facilities. <br />2. The City Council desires to amend and expand the current policy to allow signs for <br />other general points of interest, such as recreational facilities and business districts. <br />3. The City Council desires to establish a uniform procedure for the approval of all <br />directional sign requests. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as <br />follows: <br />1. The following standards shall be used for City approval of directional signs within the <br />public right-of-way: <br />a) Directional signs shall be permitted for business, commercial and retail <br />districts, recreational facilities, shopping centers and malls, religious institutions, government <br />facilities and similar destinations that have a local or regional draw. <br />b) The Development Services Department shall make a finding for each <br />application that the directional sign will benefit the public good. <br />c) Whenever possible, an existing directional sign pole, street name sign post, <br />signal pole or light pole shall be used. <br />d) An encroachment permit shall be required. <br />e) The applicant shall submit a written request for the sign stating the desired <br />location(s) and the text to appear on the sign. The request shall be subject to the approval of the <br />Development Services and Engineering and Transportation Departments. <br />f) The number of signs permitted shall be limited to the minimum number <br />needed for clear directions to the site as determined by the Development Services and <br />Engineering and Transportation Departments. The total number of signs shall not exceed three <br />for any one site. <br />219 <br />
