Bohne, Community Services Manager <br />Nancy Hillis, Human Services Manag <br />APPROVED AND <br />FORWARDED <br />TO CITY COUNCIL <br />John rmanis mo <br />Cit; !, anager <br />L/I568 <br />Appointment of City Council Members to Serve on the Human Resources <br />Commission's San Leandro Welfare To Work Planning Review Team <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />The Human Resources Commission is requesting the appointment of not more than two (2) City Council <br />Members to serve on their ad hoc San Leandro Welfare to Work Planning Review Team. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Bay Area Urban League staff is proposing a strategic planning process which will produce a Welfare <br />Reform Work Plan designed to engage a community -based collaborative in proactive delivery of self <br />sufficiency services, including welfare to work support, targeted to residents of San Leandro affected by <br />welfare reform. While Alameda County bears the responsibility for the implementation of welfare reform <br />at the County level, San Leandro can play an effective facilitating role. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Review Team will provide input and guidance in the proposed strategic planning process for the <br />development of a Welfare to Work Plan for San Leandro. A broad -based cross section of key "community <br />stakeholders" will be included. The Review Team will meet twice for approximately two hours at each <br />review. The initial review is scheduled for Monday, April 20, 7:30 A.M., in the Gallery Room at City Hall. <br />The committee will be reconvened in late May or early June to review and critique the draft San Leandro <br />Welfare Reform Work Plan. <br />CONCLUSION <br />San Leandro has a long standing commitment to ensuring the health and safety of all its residents. The <br />development of a Welfare Reform Work Plan is in keeping with our commitment to serve all people in need <br />in our community. The final Welfare Reform Work Plan will be shared with the City Council. <br />15J <br />
