r
CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
STAFF REPORT
DATE: March 31, 1998
APPROVED
AND FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
Joh Jermanis
Ci anager q g —
0,/-:2D i2
TO: John J. Jermanis, City Manager
FROM: William K. Algire, Directo 4 If.
Engineering and Transpo ' ation artment
BY: Raymond E. Davis III, P.E., Transportation Administrator
(loaa
SUBJECT: RESOLUTION DESIGNATING RESTRICTED PARKING (FREIGHT LOADING
ZONES) - TITLE VI, CHAPTER 1 OF THE SAN LEANDRO MUNICIPAL CODE -
(EAST 14TH STREET)
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
The Transportation Division, along with the Police Department Traffic Division, have determined a need for
a loading zone along the East 14th Street frontage of City Hall. It is recommended that the City Council
adopt a resolution designating a loading zone on the west side of East 14th Street at the intersection of Haas
Avenue (along the frontage of City Hall).
BACKGROUND
Transportation Division Staff of the Engineering and Transportation Department, and the Traffic Division of
the San Leandro Police Department recently met to review the parking conditions along the East 14th Street
frontage of City Hall. While recent City Council adopted modifications to the parking have been
implemented, it was determined that due to the regular deliveries made to City Hall, the Police Department,
and the South Offices, a loading zone would be in order. Currently, there is no available loading zone on
East 14th Street to serve these offices, therefore; delivery vehicles routinely park in the area designated as the
Police Department's Vehicle Inspection area, or double park on East 14th Street.
DISCUSSION
Staff has determined that the most appropriate location for a loading zone is on the west side of East 14th
Street, at its intersection with Haas Avenue (see attached map). Currently, the spaces affected by the
installation of a loading zone have no parking restriction. Staff has monitored the parking demand and has
determined that such a modification will have no negative impact on the current parking situation.
WKA:RED:RS:mc
Attachment
F2AC0UNCR,\0420\E14d&.MEM
131
