City Council, Finance Committee Recommendations Page 2 The Finance Committee held meetings during July, August, and September to develop the detailed recommendations for reducing the 1998-99 Adopted Budget. These meetings were open to the public and substantial opportunity was provided for public input and comment. The Finance Committee also suggests some consideration be given for San Leandro voters to again have an opportunity to vote on a business license tax or other revenue measure to insure the continuation of City services. According to the City Attorney, such a ballot measure could next appear at a general municipal election. The next general municipal election in San Leandro will be held on either March 7 or November 6, 2000. The recommendation by the Finance Committee represents a sound approach to necessary reductions in the 1998-99 City Council Adopted Budget. These cutbacks must be made in ongoing operations in order to meet the existing long-term budget constraints. As indicated above, the proposed reductions amount to $815,000 and are sufficient to reach the necessary target for the budget reductions. - 116"
